Wellness Suite · Contrast Therapy
Cedar Finnish sauna and arctic cold plunge, the ancient practice of contrast therapy, refined into a 30-minute reset that wakes the body and clears the mind. Complimentary with every stay.
Why it works
Two extremes. One profound reset.
When the body cycles between heat and cold, the circulatory system pumps harder, lymphatic drainage accelerates, and stress hormones drop. Athletes call it recovery. Nordic cultures have called it self-care for two centuries.
We call it the most-loved 30 minutes at the hotel. Cedar walls. Mountain water. Desert quiet. No phone. No clock. Just heat, cold, and the rhythm in between.
The Heat
Our 8-person Finnish sauna is lined floor-to-ceiling in Arizona cedar. Heat radiates from a Tylö rock stove. Amber-toned light, no clock on the wall, and the kind of quiet that pulls a long exhale out of you.
The Cold
Our cold plunge is a chest-deep stainless steel tank held at a precise 50°F. The first 30 seconds are the hardest. The next two minutes change something. Most guests do 1–3 minutes per round.
The Protocol
No rules. Just a rhythm that works. Most guests do 2–3 cycles. The whole arc takes about 30 minutes, and the effects last well into the next day.
Step 01
Enter the cedar sauna. Sit, sweat, breathe. Let the heat soften everything that's been holding tension since the trailhead.
Step 02
Step directly into the cold tank. The first 30 seconds are loud, then the body finds a different gear. Stay until you've slowed your breath.
Step 03
Heated bench, water, total quiet. Let the body recalibrate. This is where most of the benefit actually lands.
Step 04
Trust the rhythm. Each cycle adds a layer. By the third, the body and mind are in two different conversations, both quiet.
"You'll know when you're done. The body tells you long before the clock does."
What it does
The vasodilation/vasoconstriction cycle is essentially cardio for your capillaries. Better blood flow, lasting hours after the session.
Faster muscle repair after Sedona's bigger hikes. The cold side reduces inflammation; the heat side delivers fresh blood to tired tissue.
Hormetic stress in controlled doses trains the nervous system. Cortisol drops, parasympathetic engages, the day's sharp edges soften.
Guests consistently report 30–60 minutes more deep sleep on contrast-therapy nights. The body cools down faster post-cold plunge.
Heat opens pores, cold tightens them. Toxins move out, oxygen moves in. The visible result is two days of brighter skin.
Cold-water immersion triggers norepinephrine and endorphins. The post-session lift is often the favorite part of the day.
"The cold plunge is the trip I came for. Twenty seconds in, and Sedona felt completely different." , Recent guest, King Suite with Soaking Tub, Fireplace and Patio

Daily, if it suits you. Most guests do one full cycle per day. Some do it twice, morning to wake up, evening to wind down. There's no fee per session and no booking required.
Heat and cold therapy aren't recommended for guests with uncontrolled hypertension, certain cardiac conditions, or pregnancy. If you're unsure, please consult your physician, and let our front desk know on arrival so we can advise.
A quick rinse between sauna and plunge is welcomed (it keeps the cold plunge clean), but a full shower interrupts the rhythm. The recovery bench has hooks for towels and robes if you'd like to layer up between rounds.
No, cryotherapy uses nitrogen-cooled air at much lower temperatures for very short bursts. Cold-water immersion at 50°F is slower, longer, and considered the more sustainable and accessible of the two for daily practice.
No booking required. The Fire & Ice suite is open daily 7 AM – 9 PM and is rarely full. If you'd prefer a private window, common for couples or anniversary trips, the front desk can reserve a 90-minute exclusive use slot.
Swimwear is required in both the sauna and the cold plunge. We provide plush towels, robes, and shower amenities. Locker space and a private changing room are available right outside the suite.
